Treating head injuries
- ABC first!
- Manage unconsciousness
- Protect obvious wound
- Do not plug ears/nose
- Monitor vital signs
- If signs of shock develop – look for other injuries
Because compression raises blood pressure and casualties develop a flushed complexion they can look quite well.

- Airway is priority.
- A bleeding face, then clean it up.
- Avoid fluffy dressings.
- Hand pressure often required.
- Casualties can often walk out.
